Facility Short Description:    ALBA is a 3rd Generation Synchrotron Light facility located in Cerdanyola del Vallès, Barcelona, Spain, and it is the newest source in the Mediterranean Area. It is governed by a public consortium created in March 2003: the Consortium for the Construction, Equipping and Exploitation of the Synchrotron Light Source (CELLS), owned and financed in equal part by the Spanish and the Catalonian Administration. ALBA has been identified as a “Singular Technological and Scientific Infrastructure” among the Spanish scientific infrastructures. It is networked with other Synchrotron Light Sources in and outside Europe through common European projects and bilateral collaboration agreements. The facility is based on a chain of accelerators which produce, accelerate up to 3 GeV and store in a synchrotron ring electron beams which emit Synchrotron Light ranging from infrared up to hard X-ray of tens of keVs. Up to 31 ports are available to extract the light as well as the space for the corresponding beamlines and related experimental hutches. Buildings for conventional technical systems and for specialized laboratories complete the facility

Facility Short Description:    Has been conceived as a multi-purpose machine, useful as the core of a new standalone accelerator facility in southern Europe giving support to local beam users and accelerator physicists, as well as fulfilling specifications so as to serve as a driving injector for the European Spallation Source (ESS) once this latter project gets off the ground. The ESSB project aims to develop significant in-house capabilities needed to support the country participation in a good number of accelerator projects worldwide (IFMIF/EVEDA, LINAC4/SPL, FAIR, XFEL, ESRF upgrades, ISIS-FETS etc.) Bothe proton and neutron beams are expected to be used by a local user community showing an ever increasing interest in using charged particle beams for several disparate branches of physical and biomedical sciences.

Facility Short Description:    The Centralised Temporary Storage(CTS) under-construction will receive all the spent fuel and high level wastes from the nuclear industry in Spain. It will include a large nuclear laboratory with several full scale fuel cells able to manipulate, characterize, machine and make research with full size fuel pins. It will include a very complete set of radiochemistry, microscopy, metallurgic, imaging and radiologic laboratories using different types on dedicated fuel cells, metallurgical cells as well as available for wider R&D. It has been proposed to be open for different national and international research groups and to different research programs involving spent nuclear fuel and high level radioactive wastes.
